I started this page by typing up the lyrics that I wanted to use and then decided to make them the focus of the page by putting all the elements around it, like a frame.

I literally just tossed elements and paper on the page randomly and then adjusted until I was happy with the overall feel. Organized chaos!

Zig Zag Scrap has a new resident designer! 2 a.m. Designs (Monica Aguirre) joined the crew and I had the pleasure of working with her latest designs.

The page above was about my daughter and how she learned about Terry Fox in school this year. It was so touching to see how inspired she was by his story. I didn’t have a photo to go with the story, but I wanted to scrap it anyway. I find myself scrapping more and more photo-less stories these days. It’s actually really freeing.

I love the bright, vibrant colours flooding MScraps this week! These pages practically scrapped themselves. Well, since I used templates, they pretty much did, haha! For a busy mom, templates make scrapping so fast and easy, that I have time to concentrate on getting the story down. Although I love placing elements and creating a pretty page, matching photos to stories is the number one reason that I scrap.

Sometimes a mini-kit is all you need to make a page! This is a lesson that I've learned in the past year. I used to click past mini-kits, buying "mega-kits" for a few dollars more, reasoning that I'd make more layouts with them. Well, I tend to average about 2 pages per kit -- whether mini or mega. I'm glad I figured that out because it's opened up a whole new world to me in terms of scrapping supplies.

I'm a kit scrapper and a template scrapper. Not ashamed to admit it! I just don't have enough hours in the day to come up with intricate clustered designs all by myself. BUT, lately I've been noticing that my favourite designers are coming up with unique elements that don't always work in templates.

Not wanting these gorgeous creations to go to waste, I've had to change up my workflow a bit. I start by opening a blank 12x12 canvas in Photoshop and then dragging a few of the more interesting elements onto the page. Once I have them the way I want, I add in papers and a few other elements. The page above had a neat bow tied frame that I wanted to use, so I put that on the canvas and then added the word art and string/flower cluster. The page came together quickly after that!

I tried something new. I did a bit of dodging (lightening) and burning (darkening) to the background paper on this page. I wanted it to have the effect there being a sunny spot on a wooden floor. Always good to try something new, right?

PS - I really love Jenn Barrette's kits right now! Such unique and well-crafted elements and papers. Just found out she's Canadian, too, which is icing on the cake!

Sometimes one kit doesn't have everything you want on a page. Sometimes you have to mix a few, or more than a few if you look at the credits for this page!

Fortunately, I tag my items in ACDSee, so it's easy for me to see at a glance all my Fall items (which is a tagging category for me). Then I could just pick ones that coordinated reasonably well and drop them onto my page. For me, tagging has been well worth the effort. I love ACDSee!

I am going through a bit of an addiction to Chelle's Creations' Stacked templates. I used one in the page above. Here's a preview of the stacks:

Basically, they're a short-cut to layering papers and folders. They're sized fairly large, so I group them and then shrink them to fit whatever page design I'm thinking of using... I think they're so fun! They're also quite inexpensive and can be reused over and over on a multitude of page.

Helping Hand Collab

Did you see this beautiful collab? It's for a widely known scrapper who has CT-ed (worked on creative teams) for a number of well known designers. Her family was recently struck by tragedy and the digi community stepped up to create the Helping Hand digi kit, with all profits going to her family for medical and funeral expenses.

It's available at a few stores, including Sweet Shoppe Designs and Scrap Matters.

I wrote on the tag that I have 3 TB of memory just as a personal note. When I bought my first computer in 1996, it had a 2 GB harddrive (which was huge back then!). I even remember the sales guy saying that that was so much memory, it was all that I'd EVER need! Hahaha! I wonder what I'll think of the 3 TB I have now in 10 or 15 years?

I was lacking in scrapping mojo so I flipped through some paper scrapping magazines for inspiration. When I found a page that "spoke to me", I sat at my computer and made a template using the elements of paper page's design that I felt would work for my subject. Then I filled it with digital papers and voila! An easy page!

Every month I do a page to track my son's growth and development over his first year. For this page, I chose a blocked design (my favourite!) and set it down with stitches by Anna Aspnes (also my favourite!).

I did a ton of journalling on this page. My workflow is to draft in MS Word (where my numerous spelling errors are highlighted) and then to copy the corrected draft into my PS design. Doesn't guarantee an error free text, but it's the best solution I've come up with to date!

This is the start of my daughter's school year album. My little girl has started junior kindergarten! Honestly, time passes too quickly. Wasn't she just a baby?

This is going to be part of an entire album. I am using Janet Phillip's School Days album and Zoe Pearn's School Days kit for the project:

This is a lift of Favourite Things by Melissa Hill. I have found that, for me, in order to learn how to do neat things, I need to copy them first! And it's a gorgeous layout to learn from!

I created the grid and then clipped my papers and pictures to it. Then I added the stitching and tucked some elements in and around the grid.

For this page, I used Hazel Olive's Digi Files contribution. I had never heard of her before, but boy, did I love her stuff! I am so pleased with how this page turned out!

I knew I wanted to use the three-photo frame so I worked the rest of the page design around that. I love the soft, feminine feel of the page.

The Late Summer kit by Amy Wolff was included in the August 2010 DigiFiles, available at The Daily Digi. Just one of many kits you can download for only $5!

For this page, I wanted a soft feeling to it. I chose to start with the gorgeous postage stamp frame and then balanced the page by created a 2x2 block of paper opposite it. I added the stitching for a homemade and feminine feel. I used a mask to add some paper softly behind the stamp frame.

I am not a clusterer. It just doesn't come naturally to me. I tend to be a linear style scrapper. (Which is probably why I gravitate to blocked style the most.) I gave clustering my best try though on this page. It helps to "scraplift" someone who actually knows what she's doing!

I did this page for a Sweet Shoppe Design's monthly challenge. I decided to use the stitching as the main background to the page to represent the family ties and then put small photos of the four of us together on a paper strip.

Journalling font is DJB GIMME SPACE, journalling accent font is Century Gothic and date font is DJB It's MEEEEGAN.

This page was featured on the Inspiration page at the Daily Digi for Dunia's Upside Down kit.

I wanted to do something bold and fun, so I chose a striking blue background and kept my design at the edges. Then I filled the page with journalling, broken up with a large, bold title.
